11.1. Equation  «Needs/Goals/Functions»

A. Functions are the activities for which an entity is destined or in which is used. Functions are entity responsibilities or missions. Communication functions are constituted by assumed missions by this to reach some goals. In fact, communication functions are communication system functions. A system has a set of fundamental functions and one or more complementary functions. By definition, a system is constituted by interrelation elements that roll on procedural, unitary and coherent, as entity less one function. Functions are not autotelic systemic elements. They are exerted by systemic entities. Functions are functions in the accomplishment  by an entity of some goals. It is understood that functions are determined by goals that animates the system.

Funcţia constructivă de comunizare. Funcţia de comunizare se referă la semnificaţii mesajuale sau chiar la mesaje. Semnificaţiile pot fi cognitive-cogitative, afective sau voliţionale: gânduri, idei,  evaluări teoretico-ştiinţifice, opinii, păreri, credinţe, emoţii, sentimente, manifestări de voinţă. Semnificaţiile sunt stări mentale sau, generic, gânduri. Fiind stări mentale, gânduri, ele au obligatoriu, prin esenţa mentală, o componentă cognitiv-constructivă.

Teorii ale nevoilor. În ce priveşte nevoile există două teorii majore, teoria lui Abraham Maslow şi teoria lui Vance Packard.

1) Abraham Maslow a elaborat în 1943 o teorie privitoare la „human motivation” pe care ulterior, a definitivat-o în lucrarea „Motivation and Personality” (1954) . Maslow constată o ierarhizare a needs pe cinci trepte care a fost denumită Maslow΄s pyramid: physiological needs (breathing, water, food, sleep, homeostasis), safety needs (security of body, health, morality, prosperity, resources in family, employement), belonginess and love needs (friendship, love, intimacy, belongingness, family, group, organization), esteem needs (self-esteem, respect by others, respect of others, confindence, trust) and self-actualisation need (creativity, spontaneity, ideal self). Există nevoi primare şi nevoi superioare. Nevoile primare au prioritate faţă de cele superioare. Nevoile primare se satisfac primele şi până nu este satisfăcută o navoie de un nivel inferior nu se poate trece la satisfacerea unei nevoi superioare ca nivel. Self-actualization este nevoia de nivelul cel mai ridicat; despre ea A. Maslow arată: „What humans can be, they must be. They must be true to their own nature” (Maslow A., 1987, p. 22).
