The Noise, de Ștefan Vlăduțescu (trad. Mirela Teodorescu)
The noise is an important ontological element of communication. The noise concept appoints physical and/or psychological factors that influences negative the communication event progress: “Any factor that can obstruct the accurate transmitting, understanding or interpreting of the message” Pavalache-Ilie M., 2012 ). For “noise” acceptance is used also “interference” notion; for example, D. J. Rothwell sees „semantic noise” as a generation of „interference” (Rothwell D. J., 2009, p. 12). Also, K. S. Verderber, R. F. Verderber and D. D. Sellnow are speaking about „interference (distractions)”, as communication element (Verderber R. F., Verderber K. S., Sellnow D. D., 2010, p. 3).
Negative influence, as Warren Weaver suggests, consist of affectation of signification carrier signal clearness: „amount of ambiguity introduced by noise” (Weaver W., 2007, p. 33). Practically, the noise affects tangible or intangible elements either of communication channel, or communication medium-media, or communication code, or message meanings interpretation, or together some of them. D. J. Rothwell, sustains, that we can talk about „four types of noise” (Rothwell D. J., 2009, pp. 12-13): physical noise (external noise or environmental noise), psychological noise (or internal noise), physiological noise, and semantic noise. That four types of noise can appear separately, but they can be conjugated. The most frequently it can be found in emergent tandem psychological and semantic noise. The most dangerous , being almost inevitable, is psychological noise.
A. The physical noise consist of physical interferences in communication progress, This affects communication channel and communication media. Because it prejudices tangible ontological elements, the physical noise has indirect character, is an indirect noise. This noise injures, first, well functioning of the communication channel and/or of the communication media. Implicitly also media affect the communication process, message, message meanings. In physical noise category are: sounds, sights, background discusses, too loud music and other physical elements that decrease communication channel qualities and/or communication media performances.
R. West and L. H. Turner shows that the audio physical noise „involves any stimuli outside of the receiver that makes the message difficult to hear” (West R., Turner L.H., 2010, p. 13). For example, because of noise produced by an engine from the school yard, the students don’t hear the teacher giving the lesson. The apparition of some sounding or visual noises, for example, makes that a communication face-to-face to progress with difficulty: communicators mishear, can’t see normal each other and are forced to appeal to proximity feedback, to increase the voice volume, to increase the attention level.
